Basketball Recap: Newcastle Takes a Loss

Newcastle played a tough matchup on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Douglas Bearcats 78-14. The Dogies were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-10.

Adalyn Olson was Newcastle's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Sydney Pederson took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Douglas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bailey Wright led the charge by going 10-for-14 to rack up 26 points along with five boards and five steals. Wright is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last seven games she's played. Lauren Olsen was another key player, going 10-for-21 en route to 23 points and three steals.

Newcastle's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Douglas, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 16-1.

Newcastle didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-38 loss against Upton on the 11th. As for Douglas, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 74-17 victory against Chadron on the 11th.
