Football Preview: Leakey Eagles vs. Rocksprings Angoras

Leakey hasn't had much luck against Rocksprings recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Angoras at 7:30 p.m. Leakey has given up an average of 56.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Leakey didn't have too much trouble with Saint Mary's Hall as they won 62-43.

Leakey had a senior duo take command as Owen Hankins rushed for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Aden Rhiver gained 114 total yards and three touchdowns. Hankins also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, defending four passes. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Mason Boatwright, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Leakey's defensive line and their four sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Chase Rimkus. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Leakey, racking up 25 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Rhiver, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 67 points the game before, Rocksprings was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They were dealt a 58-12 loss at the hands of Rankin. While losing is never fun, the Angoras can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 796th, while the Red Devils are ranked 30th).

Rocksprings' defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Leakey, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
