Basketball Recap: Helias Crusaders vs. Tipton Cardinals

After flying high against Jefferson City last Saturday, Helias came back down to earth. The Helias Crusaders were outmatched by the Tipton Cardinals and fell 64-37. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-54 back in December of 2024.

Tipton's win on Sunday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ava Schlotzhauer, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 23 rebounds. Schlotzhauer has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 33 times she's played. Madison Carvajal was another key player, going 7 for 12 on her way to 16 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Helias' loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Tipton, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.

Helias will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Smith-Cotton at 5:30 p.m. on January 9th. As for Tipton, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 72-24 win against Higbee on the 4th.
