Basketball Recap: Northwest Vikings vs. Springfield Yellow Jackets
While the Northwest Vikings couldn't quite beat the Springfield Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 24-point loss they were dealt last Friday. Northwest fell just short of the Yellow Jackets by a score of 43-41. Northwest was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Yellow Jackets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Northwest's loss came despite strong showings from Kendall Myree and Neighna Dailey. Myree almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds, while Dailey scored 11 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Fuaau, who scored six points.
Springfield's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rayne Erickson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Erickson also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Hudson, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Northwest's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Springfield, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northwest will take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Dickson County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 two weeks ago. As for Springfield, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Clarksville will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
