Basketball Recap: Ellet Comes Up Short

After flying high against Garfield Community Learning Center last Wednesday, Ellet came back down to earth. The Ellet Orangemen were beaten by the Strongsville Mustangs 87-55 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Orangemen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Mustangs are ranked second).

Despite the loss, Ellet still got an impressive performance from Caitlyn Holmes, who went 12 of 18 en route to 28 points and three steals. Holmes' evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Sanaiiya Gray was another key player, going 6 for 11 on her way to 16 points and eight rebounds.

Ellet's loss dropped their record down to 18-3. As for Strongsville, their victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-1.

Looking ahead, Ellet will host Jackson at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ellet is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season. Strongsville has already played their next contest (against Cleveland Heights), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
