Volleyball Recap: El Monte Comes Up Short

El Monte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the South El Monte Eagles. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 3-2 to the Eagles when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

El Monte wouldn't go down easily and took South El Monte into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-21, 25-27, 22-25, 15-11.

Lexis Jacobo was nothing short of spectacular for South El Monte: he had 39 digs. Those 39 digs gave Jacobo a new career-high.

El Monte's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for South El Monte, with the win, they broke their seven-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-12.

Looking ahead, El Monte will venture away from home to take on Marshall at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for South El Monte, they will welcome Rosemead at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
