Basketball Game Preview: Nichols Vikings vs. Depew Wildcats

The Nichols Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Depew Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Nichols is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Nichols is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Clarence on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Vikings had to suffer through a 56-28 loss at the hands of the Red Devils. The Vikings were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-11.

Nichols' loss came about despite a quality game from Cheyenne Barabas, who posted 20 points. That was a full 71.4% of the Vikings' points, marking the third time in a row Barabas has scored more than a third of the team's points.

Meanwhile, Depew came up short against Orchard Park on Monday and fell 56-43. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Quakers 13-9 in the first quarter.

Nichols' defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Depew, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

Nichols took their win against Depew in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 61-40 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
