The Airport Eagles will challenge the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Airport barely beat Dreher the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory on Friday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Avery Ingram was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Riley Koellner was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Airport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Gray Collegiate Academy waltzed into their game on Friday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They blew past the Falcons 10-0. Considering the War Eagles have won 13 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Makenzie Sease was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Kaylan Boudreau and Aspen Boulware did most of the damage at the plate: Boudreau went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Boulware went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Na'Veah Matthews, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Gray Collegiate Academy pushed their record up to 18-1 with the victory, which was their 27th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 runs on average over those games. As for Airport, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Airport hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Gray Collegiate Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Airport took their win against Gray Collegiate Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 9-0 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the War Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
