Basketball Recap: Karae' Alfred's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hertford County over Currituck County

Hertford County lost against Currituck County back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Hertford County Bears fell to the Currituck County Knights 39-35. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Knights are ranked 130th).

Hertford County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Karae' Alfred, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 21 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Alfred a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklynn White, who posted nine points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Hertford County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Savannah Banks was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds for Currituck County. Banks has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Arianna White, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards.

Hertford County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Currituck County, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-4.

Hertford County and Camden County will meet on Friday for a tough Bear Battle. Hertford County is facing Camden County at the right time seeing as Camden County is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Currituck County, they will be playing at home against Pasquotank County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Currituck County is on a 11-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), Pasquotank County a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
