The George Stevens Academy Eagles will face off against the Calais Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Friday, George Stevens Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Sumner, taking the game 6-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Wyatt Young was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Young was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.
Young wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Charlie Sullivan, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Skyler Carter, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Calais, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in March. They never let Jonesport-Beals get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Wednesday. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Royals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Like George Stevens Academy, Calais also got a great game from a two-way player: Noah White. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). White was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Calais got a massive performance out of Theo Mitchell, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave Mitchell a new career-high in hits (two). Ronnie Spearin was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
Calais always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jonesport-Beals only posted an OBP of .062.
The victory got Calais back to even at 1-1. As for George Stevens Academy, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Everything went George Stevens Academy's way against Calais when the teams last played back in May of 2021, as George Stevens Academy made off with a 22-5 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
