Basketball Game Preview: Penobscot Valley Howlers vs. Dexter Tigers

Penobscot Valley and Dexter are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2021, but not for long. The Penobscot Valley Howlers will square off against the Dexter Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Penobscot Valley comes in on 18 and Dexter on three.

Penobscot Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Mattanawcook, who was ranked second at the time (Penobscot Valley was ranked third). Penobscot Valley walked away with a 46-36 win over Mattanawcook on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Dexter got the win against Orono on Tuesday by a conclusive 40-16. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 22 points or more this season.

Penobscot Valley pushed their record up to 18-0 with the victory, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 52.6 points. As for Dexter, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Penobscot Valley against Dexter in their previous meeting back in January, as the team secured a 65-21 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Penobscot Valley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
