Basketball Recap: Powdersville Patriots vs. Wren Hurricanes
After flying high against Southside Christian last Tuesday, Powdersville came back down to earth. The Powdersville Patriots fell 81-70 to the Wren Hurricanes on Thursday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (69), the Patriots still had to take the loss.

Powdersville's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaleel McGee, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 16 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. McGee continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Landen Sullivan, who went 7-for-15 on his way to 19 points.
Even though they lost, Powdersville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matchups.
Wren's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Abijah Franklin, who dropped a double-double with 33 points and 11 rebounds. Franklin's evening made it 23 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Brock Cherry was another key player, putting up 21 points along with eight boards and seven assists.
Powdersville's defeat dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Wren, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season.
Coming up, Powdersville will face off against Greer Middle College at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Powdersville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 contests -- so hopefully Greer Middle College likes a good challenge. Wren does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
