Softball Recap: Elyria Pioneers vs. Keystone Wildcats

Elyria had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 4-10 to make it four. They lost 10-3 to the Keystone Wildcats. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Morgan Palos made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Alliyah Alberto, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Keystone, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games.

On Keystone's side, Brooklyn Modock was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Modock has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jordan Owca was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Rylin Barret also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.

Coming up, Elyria is taking a road trip to face off against Lake Norman at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Keystone, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Columbia at 5:00 p.m.
