Softball Recap: Pennfield Takes a Loss

Pennfield had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-7 to make it ten. They lost 13-2 to the Harper Creek Beavers. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

As for Harper Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

For Harper Creek's part, Aleena Stahlhood was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Stahlhood was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 contests.

In other batting news, Harper Creek got a massive performance out of Kennedy Halverson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Halverson has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Kirkpatrick, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Harper Creek has already played their next game (against Grand Ledge), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Pennfield will be paying especially close attention to the Beavers' match: after the Beavers face off against the Comets, they'll take on Pennfield again at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
