Coach Gary Kornfeld told MaxPreps, "He actually had a few yards to spare. What an outstanding night to hit four field goals of that magnitude. He's a heck of a kicker and has a great kicking coach, Rob Chura, who kicked for Vanderbilt."
In his first year as the Junior Bills' No. 1 kicker, the 5-foot-8, 154-pound senior has connected on a near-perfect 9 of 10 field goal attempts. He also has made 54 of 56 extra point tries, with the two misses having been blocked.
Though not big physically, Tlapek is strong and very cool under pressure. One of the team's most dedicated weight lifters, he can bench press 255 pounds and squat 345 pounds. He's a good student, but still looking for a college scholarship, Kornfeld said.
