Preview: Goliad vs. Mathis
Mathis is seven games into its season, but it hasn't met anyone harder than the team challenging it next. It and Goliad take on one another this Friday at 7:30 PM on Mathis's home turf. Both teams are strolling into their matchup after big wins in their previous games.
The final score between Mathis and Taft last week was a 43 - 6 blowout in Mathis's favor. At 37 points, that marked Mathis's largest margin of victory so far this year.
As for Goliad, it can now show off four landslide victories after its game last week. It put the hurt on Cotulla last week with a conclusive 54 - 12 victory. Junior Logan Bland was especially active in the win, finding the end zone an impressive three times. This sound performance was nothing new for Bland, who has been a rock for Goliad in the past five games. Additional support came from sophomore Grant Garnett, a defensive powerhouse who racked up 12 tackles.
Their wins bumped Mathis to 4-2 and Goliad to 4-1. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, Goliad and Mathis will really light up the scoreboard.
