Basketball Game Preview: Roxana Shells vs. Breese Central Cougars

Roxana hasn't had much luck against Breese Central recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Roxana Shells will challenge the Breese Central Cougars at 7:15 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Roxana turned things around against Metro-East Lutheran on Saturday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 50-11 victory over the Knights. Given the Shells' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Knights are ranked 658th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Breese Central entered their tilt with Quincy Notre Dame on Saturday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They strolled past the Raiders with points to spare, taking the game 63-46.

Breese Central's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.2 points per game. As for Roxana, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Roxana was taken down by Breese Central 66-23 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Roxana was down 43-4.
