Basketball Recap: Rabun County Piles Up the Points Against Athens Academy

Rabun County waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They really took it to the Athens Academy Spartans for the full four quarters, racking up a 79-45 victory. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 25 points or more this season.

Rabun County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Huey Blalock out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 assists. Blalock has been hot recently, having posted eight or more assists the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Bone, who went 7 of 10 en route to 19 points and five steals.

Rabun County is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.2 points per game. As for Athens Academy, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rabun County has already played their next match (against Elbert County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Athens Academy will take on Oglethorpe County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Athens Academy is facing Oglethorpe County at the right time seeing as Oglethorpe County is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
