Basketball Game Preview: Iona Prep Gaels vs. Bishop Loughlin Lions

Iona Prep and Bishop Loughlin are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Iona Prep Gaels just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Bishop Loughlin Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The timing is sure in Iona Prep's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Bishop Loughlin has been banged up by 13 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Iona Prep is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New York's top teams: Albany Academy for Boys, who was ranked second at the time (Iona Prep was ranked 24th). Iona Prep came out on top against Albany Academy for Boys by a score of 63-50 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Bishop Loughlin challenged Cardinal Hayes on Friday. Bishop Loughlin took a 64-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cardinal Hayes.

Bishop Loughlin's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Iona Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5-1.

Iona Prep beat Bishop Loughlin 59-47 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Will Iona Prep repeat their success, or does Bishop Loughlin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
