Preview: Maranatha Minutemen vs. Serra Cavaliers
Maranatha has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Serra Cavaliers at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Maranatha's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches.
Maranatha stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 71-39 win over Whittier Christian at home. Given Maranatha's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Whittier Christian is ranked 857th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Maranatha relied on the efforts of Harrison Harper, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds, and Trevor Cohen, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harper has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Dylan Khatchikian, who scored eight points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, even though St. Anthony scored an imposing 59 points on Friday, Serra still came out on top. Serra pulled ahead with a 60-59 photo finish over St. Anthony.
Maranatha has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Serra, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.
