Baseball Recap: Mohave Accelerated Comes Up Short

Mohave Accelerated was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 11-5 to the St. John Paul II Catholic Lions. The Patriots were not able to make up for their defeat to the Lions from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Jacek Smogoleski put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Smogoleski wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Vince Garcia, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Garcia has posted since back in April of 2024. Martin Abundiz was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Mohave Accelerated's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for St. John Paul II Catholic, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-2.

Looking ahead, Mohave Accelerated will square off against Mountainside at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for St. John Paul II Catholic, they will welcome Miami at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. St. John Paul II Catholic is facing Miami at the right time seeing as Miami is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
