Burroughs beats Crescenta Valley for their fourth straight win

Recap: Burroughs Bears vs. Crescenta Valley Falcons

The Burroughs Bears had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Everything went their way against Crescenta Valley as Burroughs made off with a 28-7 win. The result was nothing new for Burroughs, who have now won six contests by 21 points or more so far this season.

Burroughs had a senior duo take command as Chris Kulikov threw for 232 yards and four touchdowns and Jake Scozzola picked up 122 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Scozzola was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 61 yards. Burroughs also got a significant boost from Santiago Sanchez, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 101 yards.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Crescenta Valley to a paltry 248 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Burroughs' ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out seven times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Anthony Rodriguez and Sanchez who racked up four sacks between them.

Burroughs' win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Crescenta Valley, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burroughs will take on Burbank at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burbank will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 638th, while Burroughs is ranked 204th). As for Crescenta Valley, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Arcadia at 7:00 p.m.
