Basketball Preview: Paradise Honors Panthers vs. Salpointe Catholic Lancers

The Paradise Honors Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Salpointe Catholic Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Paradise Honors waltzed into their game on Wednesday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Moon Valley 59-19 on the road. Given Paradise Honors' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Rockets are ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Salpointe Catholic waltzed into their game on Thursday with ten straight wins but they left with 11. They really took it to Mica Mountain for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-25 win at home. Salpointe Catholic pushed the score to 55-18 by the end of the third, a deficit the Thunderbolts cut but never quite recovered from.

It was another big night for Taliyah Henderson, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jayci Nelson, who scored six points along with three steals.

Paradise Honors is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. As for Salpointe Catholic, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-3.

Paradise Honors might still be hurting after the 48-22 defeat they got from the Lancers when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Paradise Honors, Bria Medina (who scored 16 points along with seven steals and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
