Basketball Recap: Newton Eagles vs. Pollok Central Bulldogs
Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Pollok Central Bulldogs, falling 83-36. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 56-26 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pollok Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jake Matthews, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 25 points and five steals. That's the most steals Matthews has posted since back in November. The team also got some help courtesy of Dillan Hatcher, who went 8 of 9 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds.
Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Pollok Central, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton will venture away from home to face off against Hemphill at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pollok Central, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Jefferson at 2:15 p.m. on December 31st. Pollok Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
