Softball Recap: Doherty Memorial's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak at Home

Doherty Memorial lost to Shrewsbury back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Highlanders walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Colonials.

Riley Cormier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Isabella LLanos and Clara Lee did most of the damage at the plate: LLanos went 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Lee went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave Lee a new career-high. Sarah DeFusco was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Doherty Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Doherty Memorial's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-3. As for Shrewsbury, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Doherty Memorial will challenge South at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Shrewsbury, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Acton-Boxborough at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Colonials' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Revolution have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
