Baseball Recap: Taylor Comes Up Short

Taylor extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-11. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sheridan Blackhawks. If the Titans were looking for revenge after losing 17-4 to the Blackhawks when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Hayden Dougan was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Charles Newby, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for Sheridan, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Sheridan's side, Braelan Bochner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Bochner has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Sheridan is undefeated when Bochner posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Austin Hinshaw was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Brayden Whisman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Taylor will take on Clinton Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sheridan, they will challenge Fountain Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
