Baseball Game Preview: Dirigo Cougars vs. Monmouth Academy Mustangs

Dirigo hasn't had much luck against Monmouth Academy recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cougars will challenge the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. The last four games Dirigo has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Dirigo fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Maranacook on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (5-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

Hudson Lufkin made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Monmouth Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Raiders. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by eight runs or more this season.

Monmouth Academy's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Dirigo, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Dirigo might still be hurting after the 15-4 defeat they got from Monmouth Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
