Baseball Recap: Pyramid Lake Wins Going Away Against Virginia City

Pyramid Lake barely beat Virginia City the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lakers put the hurt on the Muckers with a sharp 13-1 victory on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

John Kelly made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pyramid Lake is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-5 otherwise. Kelly was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other batting news, Albert Phoenix and Joshua Shaw did most of the damage at the plate: Phoenix scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Shaw scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs Phoenix has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Noah Sarabia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Pyramid Lake has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Virginia City, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Coming up, Virginia City will take on Excel Christian at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Muckers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 11.3 runs per game this season. Pyramid Lake will be paying especially close attention to Virginia City's match: after Virginia City faces off against Mineral County, they'll take on Pyramid Lake again at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
