Baseball Game Preview: Chaparral Firebirds vs. San Luis Sidewinders

The Chaparral Firebirds will challenge the San Luis Sidewinders at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Chaparral came up short against Centennial on Monday, falling 17-3. The Firebirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gavin Mesa was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. He is becoming a predictor of Chaparral's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 3-1 (and 3-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Luke Santarius, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, San Luis unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Millennium by a score of 4-3.

San Luis saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Santiago Zepeda, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs Zepeda has posted since back in April of 2024. Jesus Buzani also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Chaparral now has a losing record of 6-7. As for San Luis, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
