Basketball Recap: Sparta Skates Past Northland Pines with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sparta). They blew past the Northland Pines Eagles 67-28 on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their 15-point performance the contest before.

Sparta was led to victory by Abby Berendes and Lily Seifert. Berendes went 9 of 15 on her way to 22 points in addition to seven boards and four steals, while Seifert went 8 for 16 on her way to 22 points along with five assists and five boards. The dominant performance gave Seifert a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tiana Leis, who posted ten points and three steals.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Sparta was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Sparta's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Northland Pines, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Sparta won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Adams-Friendship at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Northland Pines, they will venture away from home to take on Marathon at 7:15 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
