Sullivan hasn't had much luck against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Redskins will face off against the Knights at 4:30 p.m. Sullivan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Sullivan made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Villa Grove, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Redskins blew past the Blue Devils 8-2 on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Redskins as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Aeralyn Thrasher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 contests.
In other batting news, Harmony Ray was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Mackenzie Mercer also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Sullivan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond posted their closest victory since May 11, 2024 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Cumberland 9-7. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
SOPHIA MONTS made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. MONTS was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on ANNA RAWLINS, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of LONDON DUGAN, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Sullivan's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, their record now sits at 5-8.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sullivan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sullivan couldn't quite finish off Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Redskins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
