Basketball Recap: Capital Takes a Loss

Capital lost against Parkersburg back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Capital Cougars were dealt an 81-52 loss at the hands of the Parkersburg Big Reds. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Big Reds are ranked sixth).

Leading Parkersburg to victory were Audriana Medina and Kennedy Porter. Medina went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points, while Porter dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Porter has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. Sophie Lott was another key player, as she made all 5 shots she took racking up 11 points.

Capital's defeat was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Parkersburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Capital will challenge Riverside at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Capital is facing Riverside at the right time seeing as Riverside is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Parkersburg, they will face off against George Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. George Washington knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Parkersburg likes a good challenge.
