Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Olivia Conway and Ayla Matias Lead Hays to Victory

Hays's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Glenn Grizzlies 3-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Hawks as it put an end to their four-match losing streak.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Hays got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 25-27, 15-11.

Leading Hays to victory were Ayla Matias and Olivia Conway. Matias had 17 digs and two aces, while Conway had 29 digs and two aces. Those 29 digs gave Conway a new career-high.

They weren't the only good servers: Hays was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. They are a perfect 8-0 when they serve at least ten aces.

Despite the loss, Glenn still got an impressive performance from Grace Phelan, who had 21 assists and four digs.

Hays' victory bumped their record up to 16-18. As for Glenn, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 18 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-20 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hays will take on rival Lehman at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Glenn is set to square off against their familiar foe Leander at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
