Basketball Game Preview: Reed-Custer Comets vs. Beecher Bobcats

Reed-Custer and Beecher are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Reed-Custer Comets will challenge the Beecher Bobcats at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Reed-Custer turned things around against Streator on Thursday. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 29-20.

Reed-Custer's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gwen Stewart led the charge by putting up five points in addition to six boards and four steals. Stewart is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Morgan Toler, who posted two points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Beecher faced off against Gardner-South Wilmington on Thursday. Beecher walked away with a 50-42 win over Gardner-South Wilmington.

Reed-Custer's victory bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Beecher, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.

Reed-Custer was able to grind out a solid victory over Beecher in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 47-37. Will Reed-Custer repeat their success, or does Beecher have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
