Softball Recap: Sumter Continues Home Dominance on Monday

Sumter had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Latta Vikings a 1-0 shutout. This was a revenge game for the Gamecocks: when they faced off against the Vikings back in March, they had to take a 3-0 defeat.

The result came thanks to Lillie Ivey's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

Sumter's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Latta, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-3.

Coming up, Sumter will challenge Ridge View at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gamecocks are facing the Blazers at the right time seeing as the Blazers are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Latta, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Carvers Bay at 6:00 p.m.
