Softball Recap: Graford Triumphs

Graford let Strawn stack four runs on them in the seventh inning on Tuesday but luckily Graford prevailed anyway. The Rabbits narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Greyhounds 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rabbits.

Trinity Leach spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Faith Perry and Margaret Byrd did most of the damage at the plate: Perry went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Byrd went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Perry is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kathylene Newman, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Graford's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Strawn, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Graford will be playing in front of their home fans against Crawford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Strawn, they will square off against Jonesboro at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.42 runs per game on average), something the Greyhounds will no doubt try to take advantage of.
