Softball Recap: Lindsay Takes a Loss

Lindsay extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-16-1 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Granite Hills Grizzlies. The Cardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Grizzlies earlier this season, when they won 9-8.

Isabelle Centeno spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sophia Macias Jauregui made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs. Hayleigh Tenorio was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.

As for Granite Hills, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-13. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Granite Hills' side, Desia Perez made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. Perez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Perez wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Atritha Joseph, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Yazlin Reyes also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Lindsay didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 16-13 loss against Orosi on the 13th. As for Granite Hills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 10-8 defeat against Strathmore on the 12th.
