Softball Recap: Truckee Wolverines vs. Gridley Bulldogs

Truckee had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-17 to make it four. They lost 24-5 to the Gridley Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 on Thursday.

Jessie Borzello made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

As for Gridley, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-4. Considering they have won 14 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Gridley's side, Reese Stevens made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Stevens has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Avery Mendenhall and Payton Burresch did most of the damage at the plate: Mendenhall went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Burresch got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs Burresch has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Alcantar, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Looking ahead, Truckee will challenge South Tahoe at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Wolverines will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least ten runs in their last five games. As for Gridley, they will head out to challenge Las Plumas at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
