Basketball Recap: Rapides Takes a Loss

Rapides fought the good fight in their overtime match against Bunkie on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 58-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bunkie Panthers. The Mustangs just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Despite the loss, Rapides still got an impressive performance from Zayveian Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds gave Johnson a new career-high. Antwon Jones was another key player, putting up seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Rapides' loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Bunkie, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Rapides and Mamou will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bunkie, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Joseph's - Plaucheville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Joseph's - Plaucheville will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Bunkie surely won't give up without a fight.
