Basketball Recap: Gilbert Classical Academy Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pima, Gilbert Classical Academy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 36-25 victory over the Arete Prep CHARGERS. The win was some much needed relief for the Spartans as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Despite the loss, Arete Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Livia Emery went 6 of 15 on her way to 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Emery has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.

Gilbert Classical Academy's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 10-9. As for Arete Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilbert Classical Academy will square off against Phoenix Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Arete Prep, they will face off against Chandler Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
