Basketball Recap: Mitchel Collins Key Part of a Team Effort in Red Wolves Win

Walden Grove posted their biggest win since December 28, 2024 on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 71-46 margin over the Rio Rico Hawks. That's more bragging rights for the Red Wolves, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Walden Grove got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mitchel Collins out in front who went 8 of 15 en route to 21 points and six rebounds. The game was Collins' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Malachi Kuti George, who made all 7 shots he took to post 16 points and six rebounds.

Walden Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Rio Rico lost, don't look at Santiago Merino. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 7 on his way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ivan Arvizu, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 10 points.

Walden Grove's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-7. As for Rio Rico, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Walden Grove will host Ironwood Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 15th. As for Rio Rico, they will head out to challenge Douglas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
