Preview: Palma Chieftains vs. Hughson Huskies
The Palma Chieftains will head out on the road to face off against the Hughson Huskies at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Palma has more to be thankful for after their contest against Alisal on Friday. Palma enjoyed a cozy 38-20 victory over Alisal.
Palma can attribute much of their success to Eli Dukes, who rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry, and Thomas Nunes, who rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries.
Meanwhile, Hughson had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They slipped by Bradshaw Christian 40-39 on Saturday. Hughson's win was all the more impressive since Bradshaw Christian was averaging only 11.23 points allowed on the season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hughson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alexander Villarreal, who rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns, and also caught a touchdown. David Delgado did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 133 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Palma to 9-4 and Alisal to 10-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's match: Palma has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 210.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hughson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 203.2 per game. It's looking like Saturday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
