Softball Game Preview: Stamford Black Knights vs. Fitch Falcons

The Stamford Black Knights will face off against the Fitch Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Stamford was handed a eight-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They skirted past Bunnell 6-5.

Meanwhile, Fitch had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They had just enough and edged out Ledyard 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Colonels: they've now won four in a row.

Hailey Merrill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maerin Lyon, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcella Rentas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
