Baseball Game Preview: Calaveras Red Hawks vs. Linden Lions

Calaveras hasn't had much luck against Linden recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Calaveras Red Hawks will venture away from home to face off against the Linden Lions at 4:00 p.m. The contest will give Calaveras their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.

Calaveras is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs last Saturday, they were much more limited against Argonaut on Friday. They came up short against the Mustangs, falling 10-2.

Calaveras saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Janssen, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Linden took on Tokay on Tuesday. Linden sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Tokay.

Linden also got a great performance from Justin Sales as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Sales has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Braden Busalacchi, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Linden is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Calaveras' defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Calaveras has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Linden struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts.
