Baseball Game Preview: Lake Central Indians vs. Hammond Morton Governors

Lake Central has gone 6-1 against Hammond Morton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Indians will challenge the Governors at 7:00 p.m. Lake Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Lake Central is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Hanover Central, who was ranked 16th at the time (Lake Central was ranked ninth). The Indians fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 6-4 on Monday. The Indians' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Dylan Hein was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jake Figg, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Hammond Morton had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 19-18 win over Hammond Central on Thursday. The Governors haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Hammond Morton got a massive performance out of Michael Stevens, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Stevens also brought in four RBI, which is notable because the Governors are undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 8-16 otherwise. Marcellous McQuay was another key player, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs.

Hammond Morton's win bumped their record up to 12-16. As for Lake Central, their loss dropped their record down to 24-5.

Everything went Lake Central's way against Hammond Morton when the teams last played back in May of 2022, as Lake Central made off with a 14-2 victory. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Governors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
