Softball Game Preview: Union Area Scotties vs. Northeast Bradford Panthers

The Union Area Scotties will take on the Northeast Bradford Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Union Area sitting on six straight wins and Northeast Bradford on seven.

Union Area is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They didn't even let Cambridge Springs on the board, marking the Scotties' second-straight 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Scotties, who have now won 19 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Mia Preuhs, who gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Cambridge Springs off the board. Preuhs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Olivia Williams was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Irelyn Fisher, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Northeast Bradford never let their opponents score on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over Claysburg-Kimmel. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by just one run.

Northeast Bradford's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Berger, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Union Area's record is now 22-2. As for Northeast Bradford, their record now sits at 15-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Union Area has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Northeast Bradford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
