Basketball Recap: Branford Comes Up Short

If Branford was riding high fresh off their 61-24 takedown of Bell last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Branford Buccaneers fell to the Lafayette Hornets 68-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (61), the Buccaneers still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Branford lost on Saturday, don't look at Anthony Washington. Despite the final result, he went 11 of 24 en route to 30 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Marty Shuler, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lafayette to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tywan Williamson, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 24 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Williamson a new career-high in points. Jordan Murphy was another key player, going 7 of 9 on his way to 15 points along with five boards and three steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Branford fell to 2-1. As for Lafayette, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Branford didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-50 win against Aucilla Christian on the 10th. As for Lafayette, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-39 loss against Union County on the 9th.
