Basketball Recap: Grafton Takes Down North Marion in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Grafton walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 46-28 win over the North Marion Huskies on Thursday. Given the Bearcats' advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Huskies are ranked 56th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Grafton was led to victory by Kenna Keener and Hadley Horne. Keener dropped a double-double with 13 points and 14 boards, while Horne went 8-for-18 en route to 17 points and five rebounds. Horne's big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Hope Dever, who posted seven points.

Grafton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Grafton's victory bumped their record up to 21-1. As for North Marion, they moved to 12-10 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Grafton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-49 win against East Fairmont on the 11th. North Marion does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
