Jonathan Kuminga joins list of high school basketball players opting for G League

Patrick School (Hillside, N.J.) senior Jonathan Kuminga announced Wednesday evening he would be reclassify to the Class of 2020, skip a potential high school basketball season and enter the NBA G League professional pathway program. Kuminga chose the professional route over Auburn, Duke, Kentucky, Texas Tech and other top college programs vying for his services.

Making the announcement via Twitter, the 6-foot-8 wing is the latest prospect to indicate he would forgo college to pursue the G League route. He joins fellow elite Class of 2020 prospects Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd and Daishen Nix in choosing the revamped path to the NBA.

Kuminga is regarded as the No. 4 prospect in the Class of 2020, according to 247Sports.

He was named a member of the MaxPreps Junior All-American team this season despite missing much of the month of January due to injury, averaging 16.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest for the 20-7 Celtics.

In 2018-19, Kuminga earned MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year honors, averaging 25 points, five rebounds and five assists per game for Our Savior New American (Centereach, N.Y.).

He has a high upside for the professional game with a strong frame, improving outside shot and a versatile scoring ability that makes him a tough matchup for opposing wings.

Kuminga is projected to be a lottery pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and has the potential to challenge for the top spot.
