Basketball Recap: Alex Nieto's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Telluride over Ridgway

Telluride was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-50 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ridgway Demons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Demons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-35 back in January.

Several Miners players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alex Nieto, who posted 14 points and eight steals. Nieto is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed four or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Langston Silbergeld, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards.

Telluride's loss dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Ridgway, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Telluride has already played their next game, a 75-35 defeat against Nucla on the 28th. As for Ridgway, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-47 victory against Dove Creek on the 27th.
